Discovery STEM Education is a not for profit organisation based at Kelham Island Museum.
My task of the day was to inspire a lecture hall filled with 65 pupils to pursue a career in science.
The organisation collaborates with both Sheffield University and Sheffield Hallam University. We work alongside STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Ambassadors to inspire and enthuse young people towards STEM careers. Bespoke enrichment days, after school clubs, career specific courses for post-16 students and CPD for teachers are delivered by experienced practitioners with expertise in engaging young people. We work with Sheffield University’s public engagement team to deliver public events including the Sheffield Festival of Science and Engineering. The organisation has been approved by Sheffield City Council as a Children’s University Learning Destination (ages 5 – 18) and we have been recognised with an award from Bury City Council for backing young people.
